Just wondering how many of you guys actually drive your Mav's or Comet's daily? I've racked up around 5,000 miles on the '74 Grabber since April 25th and am currently sitting at 96,101 original miles. It had 94,625 when I swapped the trans in early June. Hopeing to turn over 100,000 by September. Yes, I drive the crap out of this car. As many problems as it has given me, I couldn't even imagine driveing anything else, nor do I want to.
Used to, but retired it about a dozen years ago. Now it's the fair weather toy and occasional strip giggler. The Topaz is easier on the liquid gold that goes in the tank.
Hey Blown, What kinda gas mileage you gettin' with that purdy chrome addition? Mine is not daily driver, just weekends. But it sucks 92 octane like there is no tomorrow (hence, it is a weekend driver ONLY!)
i drive mine every day to and from work....about 20 miles...each way...and i am usually at work in 20 mins or so....( ) and it take me 45 mins to get home (traffic ) i love driving it in the mornings.....so much power and not that hot out... 330 trip home.....is about 109 degrees...so it sucks bad... have to shower as soon as i get home i will keep on driving it until is goes out for good...or gas is over $5 a gallon
Getting ready to have a daily driver. The latest 73 2 door with a 250 6cyl, as soon as i get it tuned up. have tags just have to get the insurance and crank it up....been setting since 1997 so i am doing a full tune up and brake job. Robert
use to drive my white car every day for 3 years until the 4:62 gears got a little bit annoying on the freeway. so i bought another one to drive everyday (my bule car) i drove that everyday for about 7 years until my commute got way to long and at 12 to 10 miles to the gallon. sorry no one in their right mind would coummute 35 miles one way in 1 hour and a 1/2 traffic in los angeles at that mpg and at $2.55 a gallon! oh yeah, plus i'd get worried about leaving it places like the movie theather and malls when i started fixing it up too much. i mean look the other post.. someone jacking gas caps and emblems... nice world we got here besides nothing can beat a new car for the commute i drive, or even full hwy use on a long trip. i mean you must admit, AWD, air condition, cruise control, pwr everything, navigation, dvd/cd, storage where you can put 4 wheels and 4 tires and still have room for another person, 25 mph or more and at 80 mph at less then 3000 rpms, sorry man, nothing beats that! maybe if i lived in a place where traffic didn't exsist (and i mean full on grid lock) and my commute was 8 miles away and took me 10 mins to get there then yeah.. i'd switch driving my mavericks everyday! other then that i don't think i'll be driving any of my mavericks on a daily basis anymore. so for you guys who still drive your maverick on a daily basis, good for you!!!! cuz the looks and thumbs up you'll get in it is a great feeling to have!
Mine stopped being a daily driver in '99 when I started working 60 miles from home . Now i just keep packing it on the Cougar, 256,000 miles and still going strong.
My 72 is my daily driver...I drive it everywhere I go including 2 mini meets this year. No need not to.lol
Mine was my daily driver for almost 20 years. Racked up over 208,000 miles with no breakdowns. It payed its dues so now it rests comfortably in the garage only to see perfect weather.
Wow, alot more of you guys drive them daily then I thought. I can't complain about gas mileage beings that it gets 8 mpg better then my mom's '02 Taurus, and the Duraspark upgrade bumped the mileage up even more, so I'm not even sure yet what it's getting now. Only real problem I have in bad stop and go traffic is the old drums brakes getting hot and start fadeing. Or when it's 90+ degrees outside with no A/C in a flat black car. It'll cook ya like an oven. My dad drove his Comet daily for years and years. It had well over 300,000 on it when he pro streeted it in 92. Thats when he quit driving it daily.
I drive my 70 Grabber daily. It's 70 miles round trip to work. I drive the Sprint & Comet whenever I can, in non raining weather....I don't put all my hard work into them, just to have them sit at home...I like to drive & enjoy them...
Let's see now, if you only drive them in "Non Raining Weather" that means that you might drive them like once a year! Right?
Georgia is already 8 inches above average rain fall for the year and it looks like no end in sight ... tough to drive the Mavs down here as well!
