Hi All, What a conundrum! Like many of us, I have a cap installed over my cracked factory dash pad, glued down as instructed. I attempted to pull out my cluster to fix a loose wire, and found that the cap hangs down enough to prevent the cluster from tipping forward. Will have to break out the hot knife tomorrow and see if I can trim it back without destroying it or otherwise making it ugly. DO NOT GLUE THEM AS INSTRUCTED (if you can help it). Mine fit snug enough that glue was not necessary, but for once, I followed the instructions...
I stuck mine down with 3 pieces of double sided tape.. I hope I don't have an issue because I need to get my cluster out too...
i glued mine down and have been able to remove the cluster multiple times since then. i do have to push it down a little to tilt it forward, but i can easily get it out every time.
I glued mine and wish I hadn't. If I had it to do over, I'd set it on there and let the car sit in the sun for several days...
Those caps will also warp if left in the heat (sunlight). I have 2 that have done that. I don't have it glued down and I take it off and put one of the warped ones on to drive around town. I put the good one one when I'm going to a show.
Hmmm, I tried prying it with a plastic pry bar and couldn't even get it between the two pieces (my cap hangs below the top of the cluster). I've got some old plastic face shields that are thinner that might slide in between. I'm afraid to damage the paint even though it's catalyzed urethane...
The problem is: The top of the cluster needs to be tilted out first, and it's pinned under the cap which hangs down below the top of the cluster.
Sawzall!! In all the years people have been using these, no ones ever had this issue before. They must not have trimmed yours enough??
