The 351W and 351C are about the largest motors you can get in it without any or just minor mods. Mods usually consist of dinging in a shock tower or firewall to get headers to fit. If you use stock exhaust manifolds you should be able to get away with no modifications. A friend of mine put a 351C in with headers and did not have to dent or ding anything. He used a set of 10 piece headers made for an early (66) Mustang. Dont remember exactly what they were. If I remember right...the heads were about touching the shock towers. What are you trying to do with the car? 302's fit great and can be stroked to produce tons of power and you can usually still change the spark plugs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Jpollard, you got my interest . . . if can find out what kind of headers on that 351C, I would appreciate. It's kinda of a dream mod for me, I know Mavericks never came with 351, but I have always associated the 70's with those Clevelands.

I will make a call this weekend and try to find out the headers he used.

I guess for ease of maintenance and installation I would go with the 302...If you want the most performance, a 351 would probably run better. Although if you stroke a 302 you will have the ease and performance. Of course you can also stroke a 351!! Its kind of endless...it depends on your budget and what you want to do with the car. If you already have a 302 and are looking for a good running street machine, I guess I would have to recommend the 302. Ultimately it is up to you. Anyone else have any suggestions that might help make up his mind??
