I was involved in the Vietnam population control exercise and when I came back to the "World" I saw this weird looking little car with it's tail chopped off. At the time I thought it was ugly to the 10th power. When I saw a 4 door I thought that was a sharp looking car. It was in 2008 when I made the plunge. Wanted to make sure they would stick around. They are probably more popular now than at the time.

One of the MAIN reasons they are popular now is because of this site and the nice folk hereon.

The bad thing about (for) the Maverick is that they were always the redheaded step child so to speak. They weren't allowed to overshadow or compete against the Mustang even though they beat the 1965 Mustangs sales records. The Grabbers and Comet GTs were even phased out when the Cobra II hit the market.

The good thing about the Maverick was it's reliablility. Ford used proven components to structure this economy compact so it was really a no brainer. No way that thinking would work these days even though it makes sense. Could you just see Yahoo Autos blasting Ford for releasing outdated technology in a car that is sub-par to the imports....those internet reviews make me want to throw up.
