I have got an old question I am sure:coco: . I have just installed a mustang 2 crossmember in another maverick! The question is do you have to get a rear sump pan so the motor fits down in the bay properly, because the front sump pan has it riding pretty high. If so so do you buy a mustang pan and sump. Alittle guidance(sp) would be great since I am progressing at a fairly good pace now

Yep you need a rear sump pan & sump from fox bodied cars or ford racing PN M-6675-a50 (comes with pan, sump, sump bolt, and dip stick) $109.95 from summit. The Ford Racing pan has clearence for the ford windage tray some of the early fox body pans don't.

If shopping in the wrecking yard look at the hump in the pan you will notice the difference. The one with out the clearance is smooth in the center of the hump the others have a slight crease. Like in the picture :D

    Hey Chandler,

I'm try to go the other way. Have a 5.0 with rear sump, but need to go to the front. Interested in trading pans, pickups and dip sticks?

    Looking forward to your reply!

John I have a 5.0 pan if you want to test fit before buying anything.

    Chandler,

I can have my parts boxed and in a UPS truck on Monday.

Does anyone know if we need to swap our timing covers too? Spoke to someone last night that seemed to think so. Regardless, I should be able to verify whether or not this weekend.

My address:Tom Hrabak, c/o Blaster, 8500 Sweet Valley Dr., Valley View, OH 44125.

I would also like to see some pics of this crossmember installation.

    And thanks!!

The pan will fit regardless of the timing cover. The problem you will run into is with the front sump pan the dip stick is in the timing cover and the later covers may not have the hole for the dipstick. (Aftermarket covers have the hole and come with a plug)
On the rear sump pan the dipstick goes into the block on the driver side. Depending on the year of your block you may or may not have the hole for the dipstick. Not sure which year Ford started putting the side dipstick boss on the block.

    Maverick1970,

Thanks for the info. I realized I'd be plugging the hole in the block. I'm also rather certain that my existing timing cover has the hole I'll need. I'll definetly check this out tonight.

My '82 302 has the left side dipstick on it . I went ahead and just left it in place because it works just fine where its at.

I have a '68 engine in a fox body (my Son's) and we used a rear sump pan that has a dipstick in it, was told that certain early fox platforms had them 78-80? we got it with the car. so don't know for certain which year it came from.

I have a 89 5.0 motor that the guy before me had installed the older timing chain cover on it and he also had the dipstick coming out of the block. I am going to remove the timing chain dipstick and use the "block" dipstick for the motor. I will get my stuff boxed and I will ship it out to you Monday also. I will also take a picture of the installation thus far and post it. Allan I welcome you to come up anytime I work on it in my free time some on the weekend and some on week nights. But I am planning to get the pan and make the mounts to hook up the steering, fabricate the firewall and do the fender aprons from there it is changing the rearend and doing the wiring. It is kind of funny as I write this, I will tell my wife how the progress is coming (it will be her car) and she looks at me like I am one brick shy and says that is great!!!! Thanks again for all you input on my question. Chandler
