Does anyone have a pic how the door weatherstrip runs on the bottom of the door ? it's been awhile since I took it off
Will be hard to close your doors with that aftermarket weatherstrip. I wish someone would reproduce it like the original stuff.
Not that I'm aware of. I've had mine for almost 3 years and no change. My doors used to close so nicely, and now they must be slammed every time.
While we are on the subject, I am putting my re-pops on shortly and was thinking of using 3M weather strip adhesive. Any experience with this stuff? Are there better products out there?
Yes....use the 3M adhesive. Get the black....not the yellow. DO NOT glue behind the metal tab at the front. This is supposed to pivot when the door shuts. When first installed, the doors are a little tough to shut (just as the trunk lid is tough to shut with a new seal), and have to be shut hard. Mine shut just fine now.
This re-pop seal looks different than my old OEM seal. I only found glue residue in the narrow channel, but the replacement seal is too wide to fit within the channel. What surfaces did you apply the glue to?
I just put mine on and used the black 3M adhesive mentioned in this post. I put it on both the door and weatherstrip and let it sit for 10 minutes (with the exception of the pivoting ends mentioned in this post). A mess as usual, but not too bad. Then I set it into place and closed the door and let it sit overnight. Cleaned it up the next day with 3M adhesive remover. Seems to be working fine and also making door closure just as difficult as stated in this post. I'm not sure what you mean by "too wide to fit in the channel". See my picture below, if this is what you are talking about, then you might have a part issue, mine went in fine with no issues (and I usually have a lot of issues). Good Luck!
I would suggest gluing these to the bottom of the door, then using masking tape to hold them in place while everything sets up/dries. I would leave the doors open during this process.
I finally figured it out. Was just not sure how many surfaces required the adhesive. I taped it to the door until the adhesive cured overnight. That adhesive is a stringy mess, so don't apply too much of it.
