Im wondering how long the lifespan of dot slicks is? I'm realizing that I have serious traction issues now with the car running right and the new gears. I'm planning to drive my car to work from time to time on back roads where the speed limit is 35 (7 miles) and play some here and there on the weekends, mainly trailering the car to the track. I know this will drastically reduce the tread life, but im just curious on how this type of tire will last? 500 miles? 1000? Just wondering. I've never ran any. Thank you!
I haven't bought any yet, I was just trying to see what would last the best before I bought any. I've never run any before.
Drag radials will last much longer than the bias ply tires and are much safer to drive on and you are less likely to get a flat from picking up something in the tread. Nitto drag radials will give you the most life of any of the drag tires. They also 'hook up' the least of any of the drag tires. Since you live in LA and are in a warmer climate they will do pretty good as long as the streets have a little heat in them. I haven't gotten as much as 10,000 miles out of a set of Nitto drag radials. BFG drag radials hook better than the Nitto's but the last set I had was done in about 2,000 miles. I have ran Mickey Thompson ET Street bias ply tires on several of my old Foxbody Mustangs. They hook up really well on the street but the driving manners aren't near as good as the drag radials. I have gotten as much as 1,500-2,000 miles out of a set of those. All of the mileage that I have given above is mostly street miles with an occasional trip to the drag strip where I didn't do real long burnouts.
You might want to ask Hotrock. He drives his Comet to both shows and race tracks with drag radials. I pity the poor ricer who tries to put a street smack down on that car
