So someone said I can just get an aluminum one off of a late model mustang, if someone can confirm that then it would save me some money. If not there is a company that Bryant recommended but they offer a lot of options and I personally like aluminum because it's cheap but they have steel, chromoly, carbon fiber etc. http://www.markwilliams.com/driveshafts.aspx
the mustang drive shaft that fits is a fox body one. they were only steel when stock. ford racing sells and aluminum one. here it is on amazon [ame="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=+M-4602-G&x=12&y=23"]Amazon.com: M-4602-G: Automotive[/ame] on summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-4602-G/Application/?query=Year|1990|Make|FORD&prefilter=1 the problem is they use 1330 ujoints that are for aluminum. so you would have to get another ujoint to goto your 1350 yoke. also i do belive your going to out grow what that drive shaft is designed for. i suspect a cromolly shaft from mark williams will meet all your future needs.
Got mine from "Inland Empire". It's a 3 1/2" Aluminum shaft. Works great! Good luck. http://www.iedls.com/Driveshafts/Critical-Link.asp
anyone have measurements for our drive shafts? I will be measuring it myself tomorrow when I order my drive shaft but just want to cross reference it with someone else's measurements.
Mine is about 45.75 inches long. It's a new steel one left over from production at Ford.(2000-2004 Mustang) Bought it from Fort Wayne Clutch and Drive on ebay if I recall correctly.
Call my brother in law (Mike) at Driveline Service of Fresno (559) 266-1673 and he can build you whatever size and shape shaft you want with whatever kind of joints you want. The shop is in Fresno but I am sure he will ship it to you. Tell him Randall told you to call.
I'm thinking about an aluminum one. Would like to get it local, but need to make sure I get it from somewhere that's reputable. thanks for the resources, gonna do some research.
We got under the car today and looks like I will easily have room for a 3.5" . . . thinking of going with a chromoly from mark williams as I mentioned before. Here is what they wanted me to measure: F=51 7/8" E=48 1/4"
When you measure the distance for "C", you'll find that a stock 79-04 Stang driveshaft will fill the bill.
a stock 70-04 mustang drive shaft was never intended to meet the power levels that mashori is planing on achiveing.
Wanna bet ? Mine will. Besides, he's not building a drag car but a road racer, the stock steel shaft will do fine for that application.
I have pretty big plans on the next engine Bryant and I are building and I would never trust a stock anything in a car like that especially since I go drag racing enough times.
It's your money. The stock late model shafts will handle more than you think. Even the late 60's stuff will too.
why is that... your opening statement was... So someone said I can just get an aluminum one off of a late model mustang, if someone can confirm that then it would save me some money. ......
