I need some help, I have been looking for the vacuum A/C control valve for a couple of months, I have even bought two from people here on the board but they had the simlar problems to the one I had. My question is did Ford use those valves on other models,if so which ones? That way maybe I should be able find a working unit. Also the fan switch in my 76 has more connections running to it than the older ones, does anyone know the history of that and if it was used in other models as well would be a great help.:banghead:

Is it the one that re-directs the flow to the heater core? What engine do you have? the valve differs from a 6 to an 8 if it the one I'm thinking of.

Are you sure it's that valve? there is a damper in the heater box the redirects the air from the heater core to the evaporator.

Well, let me give you a little history. When I first started with the car the air wouldn't blow out of the vents but would blow out of the defroster ports on to the windshield. I removed the dash and found the vacuum valve had broke into two pieces. So I swapped out the valve and everything starting working correctly until about 2 months ago when I turned on the A/C and heard a pop come out of the dash and the A/C defaulted to the defrost. I opened the dash to find the valve in the same condition the first one was, cracked basically in two pieces. Subsequently, two valves later same problem. I just figured the two I bought were leaking vacuum and not working. I know most of these parts are 30 years old and you get what you pay for 30 year old parts. That's why I was wondering how long Ford used these valves and if there was a alternate part that I could use.

The problem is the vacuum switches are made of plastic and they get brittle from the heat over the years. I found an NOS one from Green Sales back in 99 when I redid my 77. You might try them. Other option is to find one from a 70. They were all metal. You have to flip the vacuum plug upside down cause thats just they they were, but there is enough slack in the hoses to do that. I have one laying around here somewhere.

Here is the one you have used. The center hub is plastic and breaks off,

Here is the 70. Notice how it is all metal.

Thanks for the information, If you have a phone number or web address for green sales that would be GREAT! or if you could part with the one you have that might be better! Do you know anything about the fan switch, mine works on two of the four options, in fact the terminal on the bad got so hot it melted on to big glob of plastic that I had to break off to remove it from switch, so I think I need to change it as well.

Just order the metal one(70 Mav) from Greens, $60 USD. I also order the fan switch another $20, I hope they don't kill me on the shipping. Anyway, I will post the part no as soon as I get it and will let everyone know how it turns out with the A/C

    dying for A/C the parts

Well UPS just left my house, 9:00 PM delivery, I would hate to work those kinda of hours, but he did say he was on overtime! covering someone elses route. Anyway, here are the part no for the switches. The most important number I guess would be the for the 1970 vacuum switch, YH-23 DODZ-19B888-A VALVE, the guy at greens didn't seem to think I was in my right mine when I told him I wanted the switch for the 70 model instead of the one for the 76, oh, by the way the one for the 76 is ten dollars more or 70 dollars. The fan control switch number is YH 291 D6DZ 19986-A SWITCH ASY SP 30 dollars even though when I order it he said 20? I guess the difference must have been in the translation from him to the southern redneck "ME". Then add the 9 dollars shipping and we all most hit the 100 dollar mark at $99USD. Now, I will try and get them installed this weekend and see if this works or not.

Well, I guess nothing goes faster than a well layed plan. I put the parts in and still have the problem. I guess I need to change the other valve out. Anybody have the part no for that?
