well, my engine doesnt have the crossover pipe that connects to each head..

where can I get these rubber plugs to seal the hole in each 302 head?

    Thanks in advance

Rubber plugs? Are you talking about the treaded inserts? If so, and you don't have to have the treaded hole for a mounting point, I have used 5/8" setscrews with JB weld.
I know its a hill-billy fix, but it sounded realy good after the Ford parts guy said they were $35 each.

in back of each cylinder head at the firewall there is one hole,,,each hole in each head needs plugged and dont want to use jb weld lol

this is an 84 engine, dont know if older 289s/302 had them.

Those are the air pump holes. I used appropriate sized bolts in mine. Threaded inserts are available from dealer.

5/8-11 x 3/4 bolts will work for the rear holes 1/2 would probly be fine to if you could get them

the fronts require an insert/plug that that reduces the bolt hole size so you can bolt up the brackets

well think i found the answer
    TFS-51400265 for summit
    F4ZZ-6E086-A for ford stealership

actual name is called thermactor pipe or plug
i know some use old spark plugs or even just a 5/8x 3/4 course thread bolt

I would use the factory style plugs so they will sit flush. Just my personal preference.

We just needed those this weekend. Couldn't find any plugs the right size at the hardware store. We ended up getting the shortest bolt we could get withthe right thread and a washer for each. We just bolted them in and tightened up. I used the washer to help make sure it sealed.

i'll probably throw some blue silicone on the threads either way

flat washer, just to help seal against the head and keep the bolt from digging in.

I had ran the original heads with non harden valve seats for so long that they were recessed and needed to be replaced. So, I replaced them with heads from a 87 Lincoln Marque. (I have a 74 Comet, w/ 302). For the holes? I installed short bolts with flat washers which work fine. I ran them for over ten years with no problems. They are now off as I'm replacing them with Edel heads. After recently removing the heads they both looked good. I see that another person who responded before me did the same. So I guess it's a good fix. I would not had installed the bolts but since it was in the rear of the heads, no one could notice. In fact, I forgot about it until reading this tread.
