engine refuses to crank

    hi folks i hope someone here can help i have a rebuilt 68 302 in my 76 ford maverick its got a mild cam bored to 40 over it has edelbrock 600 with performer intake headers and sidepipes i used the factory electronic ignition in it everything under the hood is brand new ,ignition box distribtor ,starter solenoid coil plugs wires everything it had been running great all last summer towards the end of the season i developed a hard start when it was warmed up i put a spacer plate under the carb as some one suggested ut it didint help much i put it n my shop for the season and was starting it every month yesterday i went to start it and all it will do is crank crank crank not even a hint that it will fire i checked for fuel at the carb and its getting fuel i pulled aplug out and saw that it was fuel fouled so i replaced all the plugs all of wich were soaked in fuel i checked for spark again and it seems to be getting plenty of spark so i tried to start it all it did again was crank crank crank this time i noticed if i turn the key slightly back it starts to sputter like it wants to fire how ever while cranking it and just relasing the key quickly it makes a loud bang from the starter ... im stumped on this and hope i havnt severely damaged anything i also changed out the ignition switch last summer to thinking that it might be contributing to the hard t start when warmed up problem ... sorry this is so long wanted to be as discriptive as possible any help or ideas are greatly appreciated

    Did you check that the ignition switch is adjusted on the column correctly?
