i went to pick up my 71 from the mechanic tonight and found a beautiful dimple in the center ridge of my hood. come to find out that while installing my msd distributer and box they had to raise the air cleaner. i knew this would happen so i put a longer carb stud in. after their mechanic got done with everything instead of checking clearances he just slammed the hood down:mad: . this resulted in a beautiful raised dimple dead center of the ridge on my finished painted hood!!!!!!!!:banghead: . the dimple is about the size of a 50 cent piece. i took it to a body shop tonight and they estimated $650 to fix. i believe this is too high but that should show you the extent of the damage. i took it back to the mechanic and told them to get painless dent repair or whoever they needed to get to FIX IT. i am so p.o'ed. after one year of body work to have some idiot ruin my work is enough to make you throw things:mad: .
sorry to vent but if i didn't i would start breaking things!!!!

That SUCKS!!!!! I feel for you. Take a few deep breaths, count to 10, take your Mav back to him and have him look at the engine. While he is leaning over the engine slam the hood on his head. Good luck.

What a moron. Thats got to be THE most annoying thing to happen. I know what that feels like, its really irritating. Just try your best to be civil with them, and work with them so they will be willing to fix their idiotic mistake.

I almost did that after I put the motor back in and new air cleaner on....the only thing that really prevented me from slaming the hood was the fact that I just put the hood back on and was being gentle ....as I was checking my hood alignment...noticed the stud sticking up. I feel for ya man.

Oh heck no! $650 is B.S., but you already know that. My buddy does PDR by trade (paintless dent removal) and he could take that out in under an hour I bet. Just find someone with the experience under their belt.

a boss i had bought a new car. he noticed a scratch on the hood...they had him bring it into the bodyshop to repaint the hood. when he went to pick it up he noticed someone had layed something on the breather and closed the hood (dimple}. they had him leave it to fix it..called him to get it and someone had set something on the pass. fender that left a circle in the paint...they kept it to paint the fender...when he came back the fender paint didn't match the door....so they repainted the fender...it took a total of (7) weeks for him to get his "new" car...all because of a "scratch"....

get someone to airbrush a" bloodshot eyeball" looking out from under the hood. JMO..frank...

Well...that dimple-itis is sure goin around:biglaugh: I guess it only stands to reason if you raise your deck height and install a high rise intake and carb spacer with a 3" filter it may not clear :slap:

You could always take the money they give you to repair it and put a hood scoop on! :)
