hey im new here and i dont know much about mavericks, but i know about muscle cars and thats it. I just wanted to know, lets say i had a maverick, and i wanted to have the engine swapped. Whats the biggest engine a maverick can have? A 350 or 351? I dont think it can go above a 400 right? what about transmission? Could it have lets say a muncie 4 speed? thanks

An unaltered Maverick/Comet can take a 302 with no problems. A 351W will bolt in but not much room for exhaust. Add a mustang II front end kit and the sky and your budget is the limit. A toploader 4 speed will bolt right in. I have one in mine. Dont know why you would want a muncie, they are junk compared to the toploader.

A 350 does not belong anywhere near a Maverick.

No engine bay mods: 302, stroked to 347.
Shave the towers: 351w or c, stroked as much as 427.
Remove the towers: Anything you want.

There was a guy with a 428 CJ in a Mav once back in the 70s. Had to jack up the enginge to even see the spark plugs. Made the 289 I had in mine look pretty insignificant.

Several companies make FE swap headers for our cars, so I imagine it has been done.
I would like to see one of these swaps. Bet it is pretty awesome.
