    Hello

    New member here!

I know this is a Maverick forum but my question is more of a Maverick related. I am sure many forum member have converted Marverick to a 5.0/T5.

I am in the process of converting my 64 Falcon inline-6 to 5.0 V8 from a 1996 Explorer & a 1987 Mustang T5 with an 8”. I got the 8” rear end from a 1975 Maverick but I was not able to get the drive shaft.

I know a good drive shaft shop can make me a custom drive shaft to fit my application but I suspect it will not be cheap.

Is there an existing drive shaft from a car like SN95 Mustang or explorer (auto / manual ?) that I can get from salvage yard that I can modify or take it to a drive shaft shop to modify so it will be little cheaper?

Any help will be greatly appreciate.

    Thanks

    Waid

    Hey Waid - welcome.

My son and I converted his 6 cylinder, 3 speed standard to a 5.0 EFI with T-5.

We had the factory Maverick driveshaft at our disposal and it fit without alterations.

    All the best.

i know that the stock maverick drive shaft fits this combination in a maverick. chances are the stock falcon drive shaft should fit.
if you take a drive shaft to the drive shaft shop to have changed to fit, its usually not too expensive. if you have a drive shaft shop build a new drives shaft it will cost allot more.

Well, the drive shaft was badly damaged when I got the rear end. They still have it for $10!

I guess what I am trying to find if there a Ford car that has a drive shaft with correct yokes to match my T5 and Mavericks 8" rear end.

Getting it shorter would be a lot cheaper!

    Thanks

Without furnishing center to center dimensions of the Falcon shaft, we can't help you. The T5 uses a 28 spline slip yoke, but there are two sizes in this spline count in late model cars and trucks. The 4R70W and some AODE's use a 28 spline yoke with a larger diameter than the T5.

babdad457, I do understand what you are saying regarding center to center dimensions. I will not know that until I have the T5 & the 8" read end installed.

All I am trying to find out is what cars has same size slip yoke / pinion yoke as the Maverick. I think the biggest issue going to be the 8" rear end.

    Thanks

c4 equipped cars will have the correct yoke. there are two different size u-joints used on 8"s one has a larger bearing cap than the other.
i would suggest getting a fox mustang drive shaft. take the rear flange off of the rear u joint and see how it fits. have the driveshaft shortened if needed and change out the rear ujoint if it doesnt fit the diff.

Well, here it is or what's left of it. I paid $10.

I called a local drive shaft shop and was told they can take both weld yokes off and weld them to a new shaft for $150. They said it would cheaper if I give them a drive shaft and all they had to do was to modify the rear end side only - like foxbody with T5 yoke already on it.
