Did any '71 or '72 Mavericks or Comets come with a factory H pipe for dual exhaust? I would like to put dual exhaust on my cars but wish to retain factory exhaust manifolds if possible. If the answer is no, then what would you suggest? Any other car's h pipe work? Also, if I put a stock gas tank back on the cars, will duals not work in the back? What then, besides going to the Mustang tank? Jim
Nope, no Mavs/Comets came from the factory with an H pipe, or duals for that matter. The stock V8 setup was a y pipe from the manifolds that collected into a single exhaust. You can have duals and keep the stock manifolds no problem. As far as the H pipe goes, any exhaust place can make one for you easily when they are putting in the duals. Yes, duals out the back with the stock tank will work. It can get a little tight on the drivers side, but it works fine unless you are running super huge pipes. All my Mavs have dual 2.25" pipes and it fits by the tank no problem. Hope this helps. -Corbin
One other thing to think about is if you are going to keep the factory column shifter you are really better off to stay with the manifolds and duals because I think there is only one, maybe 2 sets of headers that will work with the column shift linkage... Without making modifications, that is....
