Got a question about fiberglass grabber hoods. Need to know which company makes the best one from anybody who has purchased them. My original hood has just enough rot at the front edge that makes it a bad candidate for repairing, so it looks like glass is the way i am going to have to go. That is unless someone has an extra one laying around and would wish to part with it. Fat chance huh? Dave
I got mine from Unlimited Products?? I think. It's a flat bolt on one, I believe they have Grabber style hood too, I think they are both available as pin on or bolt on. As far as fiberglass parts go, it wasn't too bad. I have seen worse, not a whole lot of block sanding required. Had to do some trimming/fitting like with most fiberglass after-market stuff out there. But not bad for the money and it was a hell of lot easier than fixing the one that was on the car, I had the same problem, the front inner and outer were like swiss cheese. I dont like swiss!!
i have a stock hood for sale but i think shipping would be more then what i want for the hood! your a bit to far from me.... but if anyones local to me and wants one for under 100 bucks PM me
i got mine from us body. their in florida. i was happy with the quality. one thing to keep in mind is if the company is a long ways away the shipping is going to be high. mine was over $155 to ship from florida to arizona. north carolina shouldn't be too bad. unlimited is in california. there was a thread on here recently about them. lots of complaints about their service too.the reason i went with usbody was they advertised that they were the only manufacturer that bult their hoods with the aero scoop as a one piece mold. i can personally guarantee their strength too but that's another story.
VFN is high quality fiberglass, and US Body from what I've seen is pretty good,...I'd stay away from unlimited completelyjust my opinion
i wasn't going to meantion it cuz i always complain about it but well since you guys meantioned US body and since this is a new post.... the hood i got from US body it was crap! i've seen better things made in china and mexico! the cowl hit the cowl, it needed to be trimed. the rear left side was warped and the sides needed to be trimed! very poor! pesronally i don't know how anyone can sell that crap! also seen a few things from MAS.. also really crappy! and they are right about shipping my was $150 just for shipping! someone should get goodmark to make a OE hood! even then those don't fit either
Maverick Fiberglass Since I've been selling various fiberglass pieces from several different manufacturers for some 15 years now, I thought I'd put in my two cents. No fiberglass parts are perfect. None. The stuff that came on original Shelbys? Crap. The stuff you buy now - well, it's what's available. I TRY to tell everyone that orders from me that I have had samples over the years from most every fiberglass supplier around the country that makes Maverick pieces, and I've chosen the best of what's available to sell. That being said, most any fibeglass part will need some finishing. Obviously, some more than others. Every one of these manufacturers are hand making each part, and some, like US Body, only make them to order, meaning they have no stock of Maverick pieces simply because demand is too low to take up space in their warehouses with Maverick pieces that rarely sell. That's also why it can take 8 to 10 weeks to get some of these parts. Mavericks are not high on their priority list. I have had a couple pieces that I sell specially made from NOS samples, but even then, the quality varies depending on many factors such as exactly what employee laid the fiberglass and how many pieces have been pulled from the same mold. Metal Grabber hoods are getting next to impossible to find, so fiberglass will be the only way most future Maverick owners will be able to have one. I have used several of the pieces I sell and have not experienced any serious problems, but serious is in the eye of the beholder. A wise man once told me, "if you're buying a quarter panel and you're skilled enough to install it, you should be skilled enough to fix slight imperfections." (There are no fiberglass quarters by the way.) Keep that in mind as you consider fiberglass pieces for your Maverick. Working the kinks out of a new fiberglass part is normally going to be a whole lot easier than trying to fix a rusted, twisted piece of junk metal. If it was really easy, everyone would have a nice car, right? But just to point out that all fiberglass is not BAD, anyone who saw my 70 model "Grabber" in person will tell you that from the outside, you'd have been hard pressed to tell it had a fiberglass Grabber hood AND front fenders. Many people complain about The Maverick Connection's prices, but sometimes you're paying for experience. I have tried and USED alot of what I sell. Other companies can't say that. So - if you want to at least get the best of what's out there, shoot me an email. And as for having a metal Grabber hood made, if anyone wants to step up with about a hundred grand for the DOWN PAYMENT, let me know. Otherwise, we won't see such a thing in our lifetime. Be happy there are alternatives in fiberglass. Keep on Mavericking!
I know that the original Grabber hood tooling is just laying in a warehouse somewhere! Thanks for the input Chuck ...
While we are on the subject. If I were to install a Paxton supercharger in the mav, how tall of a cowl would I need so that it stays out of sight?? I may be going to Iraq to work and if I do, the Maverick will get a serious make-over....... Just curious..... Thanks!! Preston.
Mine is a U.S. Body Source not a bad fit not great either, kinda like I was expecting. Other than the no hood pins installed incident has been a good hood. The jerky that painted my car almost 10 years ago did not trim it to fit but hey thats why a second resto is just around the cornor. I can attest to the strength though. I am so glad I opted for the steel reinforced hood or I would have had to buy another one intead of repairing some minor cracks. Lance
