After being seperated from my baby for nearly 7 months I finnaly have her back, with a brand new beautiful paint job. I just joined this forum a couple weeks ago and said I would have pics as soon as possible, so here they are. They would have been on here sooner, but I'v been trying to fit working on the car in between having to go to my real job. For anyone who is interested here is the story on how I got my car. I'll try to keep it short. At the end of my sophomore year I was almost finished with drivers ed and had started to accumulate some money to buy my first car. Originally I was going to buy something cheap to fix up quick, since I didn't have a whole lot of cash at the time. While on a "practice drive" with my dad we passed an old house out in the country (this was while I was in Texas). Amongst piles of other random junk and scrapped farm equipment my dad spotted a Maverick. I had never heard of a Maverick and thought it was some sort of Mustang option or something (please forgive me, I have now come to love Ford's much overlooked Mavericks/Comets). On our way back we decided to stop and have a look. The owners wife was there so she let us go look at it. The back end of the body was fairly trashed, but it had a partially rebuilt engine, and all of the original interior was in the car, or scattered about. When the owner came home we asked him if he would be willing to sell it, not expecting a yes, since we had tried this with several other people in the area and always got the same answer, " Well, ya know I'm holding onto it for a while so I can restore it when I retire; get some time; get some money; etc.." At least 99% of the time stays put as a lawn ornament. So when the guy offered to sell it for..... $100 I thought I was going to collapse. The next day we came to tow it out with my dad's ranger and he not only gave us the car, but use of his tow dollie and a set of rims that he "thought might fit it". I had originally hoped to have the car ready and on the road by mid junior year, but due to finding more and more problems, and being in and out of a job, that got pushed back repeatedly. Turns out the guy had given up on the car because it had been in a flood (there was actually a waterline across my speedo, yeah, that much water) So fast-forwad a year and a half. I have just graduated and its time to move to Florida (Military Dad). Having no way to get the car to Florida along with all of our other stuff, we finish up everything else on the car and leave it with a shop to do the paint and body work, since neither me or my dad have much experience in these fields. After waiting seven months I now have it back and with a few finishing touches, it should be on the road in a few weeks. Oh, and the rims that the guy thought might fit turned out to be Shelby Cal 500s (14x6) . Some Stats: 1970 Maverick (actually I think its 69 1/2, it has the under dash tray, the ignition on the tray, and the weird sill plates, your help with this would be aprreciated) 200 cid inline six (rebuilt over summer of junior year) interior-re-backed the door panel vinyl, built a package tray, repainted dash, installed stero, painted guage pods white
OK Very Sorry there are no pics. They will be on here tonight after I get back from work because I do not have time to resize them so thy will fit
