Floor Shift conv' - how to eliminate column reverse lock?

My 74 - 3 Speed On the Column - has the reverse lock to remove key.

You would have to take the column apart to gain access and remove the lever and locking mechanism.

On automatics there is a rod that connects from the steering column down to the tranny. If this rod is removed and the column wired so that it does not rotate from the park position, it effectively disables the reverse lockout and allows you to start the car in any gear. I would think the manual column shift cars operate in a similar way.
