flushing engine block

    i am in the process of replacing the freeze plugs in my 5.0 engine it has alot of rust in the block someone didnt take good care for sure anyways before i install the new plugs i was wondering if i could take water hose a flush it that way or is this a bad idea i thought since all block plugs and head plugs was out i might stick the hos ein the holes and try to flush threw Let me know if this is good or bad idea thanx

    Probably not just rust. Probably core sand from when the block was cast. I have seen blocks almost full of the stuff.

    Oh Yeah.....flush away.

    Whether it is rust or sand you will never get it out of the bottom of the water jackets with a hose. I have tried with a pressure washer to get that sludge out of the water jackets before and it never comes out. The best way to tackle the job is a good hot tanking. You might get it clean enough so it won't over heat but it will always be there to cause problems in the future.
