Hi,My names Bart and i love 70-77 Mavericks and 71-77 Comets.the only thing i own of these two types of cars is small die cast versions and 1/24 scale plastic models as i have yet to find a nice decent one in my area I do however own a quirky underated car much like the Maverick and Comet its a 73 AMC Gremlin that i'm making a drag car out of.I know i know laugh away but then again how many have laughed at you guys when you turned a granny looking 6 banger Maverick into a fire breathing V8?I've always loved the underdog cars like the Mavericks and Comets,Pintos,Hornets & Gremlins and even Vega's thier all quirky lil cars but have LOADS of potential. And from the pics of seen here you guys have certainly built some wicked rides.
1970 Green Gremlin Gremlins are cool. My Dad bought the deluxe sport edition in the spring of 1970. I think it had either a 305 or a 307 in it? I can't remember. It was green with black racing type stipes on both sides. I was supposed to get it when I was old enough, but he sold it in 1986 for $550 bucks! I was heartbroken. After that I never helped him again with any of his repair work on any of his other cars. I used to help him work on cars before I could even ride a bike! LOL Now I'm finally restoring my 1970 Grabber Maverick, and my son will get it when he is old enough! :evilsmile
Welcome to the board. I remember a time when Gremlins were very popular on the short tracks around here. Everyone had to run a Gremlin or a Pinto. Now you can't even stumble on one in the junkyards anymore.
Howdy and I like Gremlins too. One neat thing was they had over 20 gal tanks in them. Could go forever between refuels.
Thanks for the welcome guys and the Gremlins like The Mavs got a V8 starting in 72 or was it in 71 when the Mavs and Comets got the 302's? anyway getting back to Mavs and Comets, does anyone have a 2 door for sale near Ft.Pierce Fl.? thats between West Palm and Daytona
another AMC owner Welcome! You're not alone. I own a 72 Gremlin X that now has a 360 in it and a 71 SC-360 Hornet I bought in 72. They fit in nice with my 71 Dart and my 70 and 77 Mavericks. Never did like big cars, take up too much room. You can fit alot more small ones in the garage, now I just have to make room for the 77 Grenada. Fred
Nice Hornet! I remember as a kid my two favorite hotwheels/Matchbox cars were the Greased Gremlin and "Piston Popper" Maverick, I don't have the gremlin car anymore, but recently last summer my son found the maverick one at a Yard Sale for 25 cents, so of course he bought it! And, he even repainted it purple! He chose that color, becasue I found him a couple of the Johnny Lightning's Maverick's on Ebay, one opened the other is hanging above his bed! That's why he likes my old maverick sooo much! If I can find it in his room I will snap a picture of it. He did a really good job re-painting it.
Hey thats cool all ya need now is a Pinto and a Vega and you'll have all the quirky lil cars that everyone hated but now wish they had today
