Hello, all I currently have a 70 maverick with an 8" 4 lug rear end. I'm trying to upgrade it to a 5-lug. I've read on another post that you cannot interchange just the axles. What is the best way to go? Should I rebuild the differential with all the necessary parts to do what I want or should I just look for a donor car? Thanks!!:tiphat:

    I have a 8" 5 lug unit. I will sell for $200.00 plus shipping.

    PM me if interested.

    Find a Granada/Monarch 8" rear.
All are 5 lugs, and in an I6 car, you just might find a 9" rear.
The computer tells the yards I know to sell for about 85 bux each.
I got a 9" that way. The online network said the rear was worth 85 bux, so that is what they charged me. The 9" came from an I6 Monarch.

I haven't measured a Maverick but the Granada is 57-3/4" outside drum to outside drum.

Less than 3/4" added per side.
    Roughly 1.25" wider overall.
Only enough to worry about if you are running wider tires/rims that you have dialed in perfectly for the stock width.

Granada rears are same width as 64-66 Mustang or 57-59 Fords...
They came with 8", 9", and 8.7" rears.

    Maverick is 56.5"

    Edit:
There is NO other difference in the rears.
They are a DIRECT bolt in.

If all you want to do is switch to 5 lugs and keep the same rear end, then I believe you may be able to just have 4lugs wheel beaqrings pressed onto the 5lug axles.

The axles are different diameters, won't work.

Every '71-'72 Maverick built that came with a 6 cylinder came with a 4 lug 8 inch.
