Has anyone found out if ford fusion wheels will work on our cars? I was at the shop today changing tires on one and the 17x7's that were on it looked like they may fit on a mav, doing an internet search to find all the specs on the stock steel ones. here is an old thread I found on the subject http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=29459&highlight=ford+fusion
I should think that if...You purchase good ones, and install and torque them properly, you will be fine. I personally dont like the idea of putting that much stress on the outer bearing and the original wheel studs. Lots of loading and leverage forces working against them...
thats the part that bugs me all that stress..... but then again it seems like some of the guys up here that use them havnt had any issues with running them.
You really shouldnt have an issue unless, you plan to really work the car hard....Road course/drag racing kind of stuff. Plain old street use, you should be fine.
If you plan to autocross with em...The steel fusion wheels are rather wimpy strength wise...As are the steel GM rims on the passenger cars. Really isnt much to them and they bend/flex with little effort. (I see em mangled all the time) If you want to autocross (On occasion) have a dedicated set of rims and good tires for that purpose.
Go to an autoX event more than half of them are running spacers, and they abuse the hell out of their cars. Look at rock crawler they run spacers as well. only downside is the price, for the price of spacers + junkyard wheels you can get a new set of wheels that dont require spacers.
I was considering running spacers at one point and for the offset you (and I) need for wheels with that much backspacing, the cost of high quality bolt on spacers(I wouldn't consider anything less) and the wheels/tires, it was about the same cost as buying a different set of wheels with the correct backspacing, and like mentioned before, the Fusion wheels are not very strong.
