I bought my first Maverick and it has a transmission problem. At first I thought it was just a damaged front seal but that didn't fix the problem and oil was still coming out from the flex plate. I did convert the engine from a 302 to a 347 stroker would this cause any Problems?
It's leaking tranny fluid not oil, sorry. So would that be a problem with the rear seal? And would it be more trouble to just replace the C4 with say a C6?
A c6 swap would require a new trans tunnel, besides a c4 can be just as strong, weigh less and use less horse power. Did you use any sort of lube when you installed the converter? Its not the rear main if its trans fluid
c 4 Leak If it's a bolt on bell housing the bolts could be loose or the pump face could be cracked. Hope this Helps.
If you changed the front seal, and it still leaks, then most likely its the pump housing gasket thats leaking.
How do you fix the pump housing? just buy a new one or rebuild the entire transmission? Also will the C4 still work if I put a torque converter in with a higher stall?
You dont necessarily need to rebuild your trans but if it has alot of miles on it it wouldnt be a bad idea. To replace the pump seal remove trans, converter, unbolt front pump, put vise grips on pump casting webbing and pull. Clean off remaining gasket, install new pump o-ring and gasket and torque to spec. Make sure you use a trans assembly lube or vasoline on the o-ring also doesnt hurt to put it on the converter either. A stall converter will work fine in your c4 get one matched to your engine though. note- when removing pump watch out for your thrust washer it may stick to the pump, also try not to pull the gear train to far foward.
Do you know what websites or stores sell stall converters that will fit both the C4 and 347? somewhere around 2500 RPM, also the C4 will still work for the 347 without giving me problems if it's rebuilt?
my tranny is slighty sitting to the left and wont drop into the slots for the tranny mount maybe my motor isnt sittting right?
It says to the side you have a AOD, did you modify the crossmember? An AOD will not fit the stock crossmember.
Email TCI go to their website and tell them whats up. A 347 in front of a tired C4 will have problems. Id rebuild it with better clutch plates and Kevlar band. Or just buy the TCI streetfighter.
