Bought the 2DR V-8 72 Comet!!! the body is completly shot but the motor runs. he wants $700 for it but he said he'd take less. question is: Will this car have everything i'd possibly need to swap out my 250 for the 302.
Ought to have everything you need there unless someone has pilfered some stuff off of it already. Motor mounts, belly bar, double-hump tranny crossmember. Manifolds if you don't want to go with headers (but you will ... ). You already have 5 bolt axles. You definitely will want to upgrade to disc brakes with the new-found power.
awesome! i'm just gonna hope it doesnt sell for a couple of months. too bad 16 year olds cant get loans.....
Best thing I find to do in situations like that, is have a good long talk with the owner, and then see if he would be interested in holding it for you for however long you need, and give him a deposit to hold it for you.
going back tomorrow to look at it and hopefully buy it. like i mentioned in the other thread the dash pad is perfect so that could earn me a couple hundred bucks there!
Perhaps the person could use some help doing jobs that you can perform. Painting, yard cleanup, mowing, garage cleaning etc
my dad is gonna loan me a couple hundred but i gotta pay back every penny like last summer when i had the carb and stuff rebuilt/serviced i hate paying for a dead horse but this is to perfect to wait and save up lol... Hard Work is good for you/me
"Bank of Dad" I'm 45 and I'm still paying loans to the Bank of Dad. It started with *MY* first car (bought it when I was 15 and had to sit there playing the radio for 6 months until I got my license... every guy I know has done that). Then it was student loans. Now it's mortgages (helping with that massive initial deposit). I understand not all "Bank of Dad's" will negotiate... but tuning, washing, waxing, polishing his car helps, painting the house helps, beyond mowing the lawn requires pruning/trimming trees and hedges, or time permitting a 2nd job. Good luck... and don't fret if, by chance, you miss out on this 2nd car... if you start losing sleep and dream CONSTANTLY about working with a 2nd car then it's destined for you... start saving every dollar, if this car is a miss you will be prepared for another one when it comes along. Keep the cash on hand and your eyes and ears open for the next opportunity. I pretty well had a fit last year when I got my 2nd baby... took 2 months after talking to him to finally have the money and get it towed home. THEN I could sleep and have pleasant dreams about a the work I could do to it. Another thing - be careful with this - is to negotiate NOW and give the owner a deposit to hold the car - like 10% or whatever you can afford now - get something in writing as a receipt... and only give money you can afford to risk losing... but some people are actually pleasant to deal with and will gladly hold the car for a month or two if it promises to "go to a good home" where someone will restore/take care of it. (PS - don't tell them you're going to butcher it). My first Comet - the lady let me take the car home after I gave her a post dated cheque for 1/2 the amount of the car. And MAKE SURE YOUR PARENTS KNOW YOU'ER GETTING A 2ND CAR... my girlfriend has absolutely hated Comet's ever since I brought home the 2nd one.
