found a 92 linvoln mark ..(errr some number) .. with a 5.0 HO and AOD... What I want to know is just how much I can rob from this .. umm .. eerr .. fine piece of late model engineering My plans are for an FI upgrade ..using the computer, harness, upper/lower intake, injectors, fuel rails , MAF sensor, Intake piping, throttle body and any other related hardware ... .. serpentine belt conversion .. hopefully scrounge the cooling system .. not sure have to do some measuring on the radiator and fan shroud .. charging system swap .. should be easy if I do the entire engine management harness switch and the serp belt swap my main questions involve the fuel system ... anyone know if I can get away with using the lincolns fuel pump? AOD .. if I am doing the full wiring harness with the engine .. will there be any HUGE problems with an AOD conversion ... other than ..a crossmember .. a driveshaft .. and a way to make the speedometer read accurately ..? .. is the '92 speed sensor electronic? and other than some possible sheet metal donations is there anything else I can rob from the lincoln?
For the fuel system, you need to get the rubber hoses without destroying them (easier said than done) I think '92 used the spring ring retain fittings. You can get a $2 tool from just about anywhere to get these apart. Just push in the tool and pull on the line. It takes lots and lots of pulling to get it to come apart though. You can disconnect at the fuel rail first and take the engine out if it makes it any easier. The hard lines need to be custom made so i wouldn't worry about them. The Lincoln pump could be made to work, but you'll have to fab up a way to mount and baffle it. That's the real trick. Tanks Inc. makes a universal pump kit. This site shows how to install it. http://www.thedetailzone.com/Tanks%20Fuel%20Pump%20Install.htm Just take as much as you can. It's always easier to throw out extras. Sounds like you're on the right track.
The AOD swap will only require the crossmember and driveshaft mod. Might be able to get away with the Mark floor shifter also. You could use the rear end out of it 5lug and disc brakes.Or, like ATO said get as much as you can. If you dont want to use the rear end you could sell it to the mustang guys and the front suspension to them also.
groovy thanks guys .. oh and .. like I was telling the GF .. you never seen a stripped car till you seen me strip one .. after all ... sheet metal is sheet metal you just have to reshape it ...*slow evil grin*
