    HELLO,

I JUST PURCHASED A 1971 MAVERICK WITH A 200 SIX AND WOULD LIKE TO SWAP IT TO A FIVE LUG PATTERN WITH MANUAL DISC IN FRONT.

QUESTION I HAVE IS THE REAR END A 8-INCH OR SEVEN AND CAN I JUST SWAP THE SHAFTS OR DO I NEED TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE UNIT?

SECOND QUESTION IS TO CONVERT THE FRONT TO MANUAL DISC BRAKES WOULD I NEED TO REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER AND PERPORTIONING VALVE WITH LINES AND TIE ROD ENDS OR WILL THEY FIT / WORK ON MANUAL DISC BRAKES? ALSO IS A GRANADA A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MANUAL DISC BRAKES UPFIT?

    PLEASE ADVISE / HELP

    THANKS, GEORGE :slap:

You have an 8" rear but it has smaller axle bearings than the 5 lug. Best bet is to find a complete 5 lug rear. As fas as the proportioning valve, this is a debated subject. I have never swapped the valve and have never had a problem. Others swear by it. Guess it's up to you.

i always switched or ended up switching the prop valve. not for functioning but easier swapping in with the master. it has the right size couplings to fit your new master cyl. as far as whether or not the 2 are different.... let somebody else debate that one. i agree with dennis on switching to a 5 bolt rear axle. if memory serves me correctly, the axle from a later mav with 5 bolt has bigger brakes than the older mavs with the 4 bolt. my .02
