When changing over to manual discs, is it necessary to change the lower control arm/ball joint? Is there any difference between the 4 lug drum lower control arm and the 5 lug manual disc lower control arm? How about tie rod ends? I have spindles from a 76 disc maverick, and my car is a 1970 with a 200-6 and puny 4 lug brakes....

No need to change LCA, you will need to use the 76 tie rod ends.

The spindles will bolt up to your existing ball joints. You will probably need to swap out the outer tie rod ends. I did the swap on my 70 last year.
