While the engine is out I am working to replace the old bushings and older suspension components. Does any one have any recommendations for a good set of front shocks that won't kill the budget? This a 302 car and is just a driver not a drag car.

I run KYB black shocks. Can't recall what part# at the moment. Got them at Rock Auto @ around $26.00ea. They have nice ride quality. The only thing I recall -- I had to use a piece of the old hardware to mount the rear passenger shock. Other than that, I was able to use the hdware that came w/ the (4) new shocks. I have had Gabriels in the past on other cars and were satisfied w/ them --- probably be ok w/ either..

Well I pulled a set of KYBs off the front of my Comet as they felt like I was riding on blocks of wood instead of having springs in place... I have them on the Fairlane and are great but these are too stiff for the Comet with a aluminum headed 5.0...

Now have a set of Monroe I got from a friend, ride is decent...

Thanks guys, I will have to look into those. I just want to make sure what ever I get will work for the car and won't be too much and mess up the mounts. I have never gotten shocks before so I honestly have no clue.

Thing with shocks are the cheap ones are stiff and have a sh!t ride..atleast in ligjt cars..not bad in heavier cars like 79 camaro
if you want a good ride you need a good performance monotube shock

only one i know of is ridetech Q series but theyre not cheap
    125 to 175 each
id only go this route if youre were setting up the car to pro tour abd didnt wa t coilovers

    http://www.ridetech.com/store/shocks/

    Has the HQ the RQ

Bilsteins will be the next step doen at 80 a piece

    Id go monroe over KYB

What series of bilstein would you recommend for our cars? It doesn't look like they make anything for the maverick and most of the things I am finding is for trucks.

Were they the twin-tube? Or mono-tube? I know the mono-tube is supposed to be stiffer.
