    i have on my '73, a filler tube that goes into the tank...:yup:

    for all the non-believer, Bryant is correct, I checked it out. There is a rubber ring that goes from the filler tube into the tank. The rubber think I'm pulling on is something else, the rubber ring Bryant is talking about is further down, it's that black thing you're looking at, it's a pretty good size thing too:
