    12.7 mi/gal
    I drove 144mi on 11.3gal
Most of my drive is freeway commute with almost no traffic. Going about 75 on the freeway. Pretty stock 302 with a edelbrok 600cfm carb
tires are new and engine puts out about 180hp at the wheels so nothing racy about the car. A/C was on most of the time. To be honest, my Hummer gets almost better gas milage on the same roads. Something isn't right . . .

Slow down and it will get better, I get 21 with my stock 72 302 but at 75 drags it down to about 16.

My 72 with a 289 and 4 speed (no overdrive) and 3.00:1 gears gets 20- 21, if I don't drive it hard. And keep it under 70 mph.

    what gears do you have?

I replaced the rods in my Edelbrock with the next size down; didn't change the jets. Made a good difference in gas mileage and didn't decrease my power. Power is certainly still fine for just driving. They're easy to replace and you can switch them back with just a screwdriver.

You have a rebuilt engine, right? The gas mileage will be pretty crappy/fluctuate for a bit while it is breaking in. Over 70 mph and A/C use drops mileage pretty good as well.

Are you sure you went down on the Rod size? Going down on rods means richer

    i agree.

with the C4 and 2.79 or 3.00 gears (whichever u may have), you're going to be cranking close to 3,000 rpm's at 75 mph. if u want some highway driving out of it, install a 3.55 or 3.80 gears with an AOD transmission :thumbs2:

Fuel mileage?? You guys crack me up. Go buy a Neon. Its a 30 plus year old car with lousy fuel distribution. My 4 litre Jeep get 18 on a good day. My 300M gets 24 as an average. If you guys get 20 with these old clunkers I think your doing very well. As for my Mav I havent got clue one what it gets for mileage. I just stop at Sunoco when it gets under a half.:):)

Dont forget these cars havent been used up here as daily drivers for about 20 years. I guess some of you southern guys use these as every day transport still. One big thing to check on the Holley vacuum secondary carbs is that the secondaries are not open a bit and dribbling in fuel at low rpm. Use to see this a lot when I built and set up carbs around here. Some will do it at idle if the stop has been bent or adjusted wrong.

LOL your all wrong, when i drove to LA and fresno i got over 20 by staying over 80.... usually around 90.... of course you could always do the AOD conversion.... but i still get close to 20 even under 75 so it could be the breakin

With my AOD, I was doing 55 down the highway at the Round Up, (with 3.55:1 gears) it was running right around 1900 rpm. I don't care about mileage, I just thought it was cool.

Down / Up / whichever makes it leaner. IIRC it was 4 mpg+/- difference.

i have 2.79 if i remember correctly. AOD might be a good option down the road but for now I guess I'll just be happy I don't have 9mpg, lol.

and you're right, it shouldn't matter but you know, I commute so it's somoetimes a pain in the buttock to have to refuel a lot.
