Matt called me from school. He tried to fill the tank up and had a little spill over morning. I have a feeling that the rubber gasket that connects the filler neck and tank is shot. Anyone know the part number and/or where to get one?

Also is it possible/probable that there is gas on top of the tank now? Don't need an fire/explosion.

Spill over inside the trunk or did it burp it out the filler neck down the back of the car?

I wasn't there and will try to look at it tonight, but I think it spilled at the tank. He said he looked down and a little gas had pour on the ground from underneath. I have texted to ask if any is in the trunk, but haven't heard back. Told him not to drive it if any is in the trunk til I can asess it. I am mostly worried about gas I don't see.

Of course, I hadn't considered that the back flow safety on the pumps might not work with our cars.

Gas spillage is pretty normal because the back flow stuff on the new pumps don't work with our cars. I always get out and have to baby the pump because the attendants in oregon will just try and stick the pump in and walk away.

You still have attendants? Must be nice.
Must be nice to get gas WITHOUT spilling/overflowing some....

I wouldn't worry too much about the gas. It evaporates pretty quickly. :)

Thanks for the thoughts on the gas.

But where can I find the rubber "Gasket" that fits between the filler neck and the tank?

It's probably like everyone has said, they all spit back if you're not careful, you kinda have to hold the gas nozzle sideways, and go slow.

Where do you find one of these? What is required to make this change. The only reason I'm not heavily considering changing my bumpers is because it gives me somewhere to sit while I pump my gas. I'd rather let the gas monkeys do it.

Any car equipped with a catalytic converter should have an unleaded filler pipe. Usually 75 and up

It was coming from between the filler neck and tank and not the result of backflow. Looks like the seal may be bad. :(

Thanks for the part number DDB. I will go look it up.
