I got my time off work approved so I'm good to go! Super excited to go back again this year. I have a big list of things to do. Bryant and I started a document and we are gonna slowly chip away at things. Hope it's not boring to read but I thought I would post things I have to do and I'm sure I'm gonna have a ton of questions to ask. I've listed everything in order of importance Suspension -have to rebuild the after market Varishocks mounts in the front, I didn't install them correctly the first time around -have to change the mounting of the rear sway bar which has been binding a little EFI Conversion -I had a heck of a time with changing jets because we were in Las Vegas for part of the time and then in Ely and each place had different elevation and I was reading plugs left and right until I got it just right -need to get the fuel system done -still have to purchase the Mega Squirt but have most of the other parts needed Tires -I just purchased the tires last year, don't know if I should reuse them or buy a new set -they are rated W so I should be safe going 140mph+ Aerodynamics -hood lifts at high speeds, might do hood pins -remove the wiper blades -need front air dam
Lot of air getting trapped under there...Front air dam will help some....Try to get it as close to the ground as possible
Which airdam did you use? That looks like it would work well for me. We talked about doing a metal one that's larger but I don't think I need one as intricate as a metal one.
here is the rules for the Grand Touring Class I want to enter. The max speed will be 140mph and I'm gonna enter the 125mph class.
I experienced this senerio in my 1970 Torino GT at about 110 mph and have a friend that runs Targa in a 73 Mach 1 that has had the same experience. At around that speed the rear of the hood would lift but that would allow underhood air preasure out and stabalize the car greatly. Allowing that trappped air to escape from under the hood will really help at higher speed.
what happened to the rear sway bar? i remember you had already trouble with it, ripping through the frame rails. and where does the hood lift? front or back?
The hood actually will start to vibrate which just doesn't feel safe so I need to correct it. The rear sway bar on the drivers side has very little space to attach to the 9 in housing. So it tends to snag on that side. Shouldn't be hard to fix though. Well I guess it doesn't snag, sort of binds there because the mount keeps bending there.
Going those speeds, I'd for sure want hood pins in front, maybe even some in the rear. Surprized it's not mandatory for front pins anyway.
There is a post a number of months back where someone built heavier re-inforcing brackets that went on the unibody rails...............really the rails/frame of the unibody is just thin metal and can't take the stress...I will look for and try and post it.............the design for the add-on bars for the Mavericks are poorly designed at best.......................IMHO
What about the back window? Not much really holding it in, maybe install some bars on it, like they use to do in Nascar (when it was good) I'll be following, I think this is all pretty neat.
Here is some great information about aero and cooling. I plan to build a splitter to see if it helps my cooling problems. here is parts 1 thru 3 for testing and doing it. http://www.autospeed.com/A_2159/cms/article.html http://www.autospeed.com/A_2160/cms/article.html http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2162/article.html
Ok, so I had this popping noise that caused the car to stall on the freeway. It sat in my carport for about a month. Towed it to the shop this morning and Bryant said he thought the noise was from backfiring in the exhaust. Pulled the plugs and one of the plugs didn't look right. Then he found this:
