I threw together my Comet GT and am going to try it out this weekend at the PSCA race in Fontana, CA. I hope it holds together. I have been busy working on it every day for the last 4 weeks. Put new suspension, steering, motor, electrical, fuel system, radiator, trans, subframe connectors, etc., etc. I'm hoping it will go 11's, but 12's would be fine. It doesn't have a roll bar so I can't go faster than 11.50 anyways. Well wish me luck.
Makes me a little nervous too. It will also be a little scary going 115 or so without a roll bar or 5 point seatbelt. I'm going to double check everything. I should be OK. I wouldn't want my rear end to fall off like what happened to this other racing Maverick on here a few years ago Actually, my U-joints might break but I'm bringing an extra driveshaft with me in case they do.
ahhh,,, best time (an CHEAPEST time) to replace u joints is BEFORE they let go,,,,, Pretty sure you know that,,, just a reminder. Not too often you get lucky an just have u joints to replace after they go south. Again Good Luck !!!!
I hope to hell you got driveshaft loops on her son. Listen to a old man and get a good seat and bar in her. Cheap insurance for sure. No substitute for safety. Saw my first drag acident when I was 5 and it wasnt pretty. Guy lost it in a Bantam bodied C/A . Car got on the guard-rail and that was it. Didnt even hardly fill the pick-up truck after they cleaned it up. The guy died a year later and left a wife and 2 kids. You ever see Bob Gliddens crash in Atlanta?, Same thing. Im sure glad tracks got rid of the steel, but some still have them.If your track has the old steel guard-rails, dont even chance it. Scary. Regards. Al
OK, I replaced my driveshaft with one that has new u-joints. I have a driveshaft loop and I added the shoulder harness. It has all the safety stuff required so hopefully nothing will happen. You never know in drag racing though. Last year at this same race at the same track we lost a great racer. He hit the wall at the end of the track head on. He was a friend of mine and he was only two cars ahead of me. It was horrible, but it made me get more into safety, so I know what ya mean. Anyways, I can't wait to see how the car runs.
Thats good Eric, Glad to hear it. If I had my new bender done , and you were close, I'd make a bar free for ya. Hopefully you have one now. One thing about the mavericks is that they are a strong little car. Anyone thats had accidents with them will testify to that. Go to www.animaljimracing.com Look in his picture gallery. Inside is his pro stock maverick which he rolled about a dozen times! Traction-Loc rear took a **** and locked one axle up. Let us know how things go. Regards. Al
It went pretty good today. The first 2 runs of qualifying the body was twisting up pretty bad and it was hard to steer. I have subframe connectors, but they must not be enough cause it felt scary. Went 11.94 and 11.98 for the first 2 rounds, but my fuel was totally cutting out before the 1000 ft mark. So I stiffened up the left shock and filled the gas tank full and on my last qualifying run it went straight without much twist. It felt great and safer, but I still let off at the 1000' mark because I'm in the Open comp class where they take off .1 of your fastest time and use that as your dial in for all of eliminations. Anyways, the last run went good 11.69 letting off. I think it went good for the first 3 runs on the car. Thanks for the encouragement guys...also, I met another member from the board so that was cool.
