Does anyone know how to replace the coil springs and front struts ona 70 mav. I have spring compressor and figured i could take the whole works out in one piece but i dont think it works like that with these cars. any help or if there is a link to how to someone could show i would appericiate it.
no front struts... removing the coil springs is a dangerous job for a beginner. with that being said, what spring compressor do you have? http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=72393&highlight=coil+spring+removal ...Frank...
The shock comes out first. Unbolt it from the upper control arm, then from the upper shock mount (in the engine bay). Then you can feed a spring compressor down the spring, compress and remove. As mentioned though, its a fairly dangerous task. There's a lot of energy compressed in that spring. I handle them like hand grenades with no pins when I pull mine.
thanks b_ryce. Thats what i needed, i made it out harder than it was. for anyone attempting this project when the spring is compressed in the compressor dont hit it with a hammer to try and force in position, my brother almost lost his hand twice doing that, just unscrew it if it dont fit and compress it differant.
I drop a heavy chain down through the shock tower and bolt the ends together in the engine bay to secure the spring, just in case...
