well went out ti sir on saturday for the last of our first series points races. leading the high school category runing my moms explorer.(won all five races so far:thumbs2:) run both time runs in the maverick in pro and the explorer in high school. go up to first round in pro and red light by .009. well i guess i have to do good next series to make it to the et finals. go up for first round in HS and get the bye :bananaman, there were only seven cars and i somehow i end up the fourth car(thats the car they were pulling for the potential that day) in line when i show up last. win second round by treeing the guy and get to my sixth final in a row. after the second round of all the classes finish we have a consolation race so i get in that with my maverick. i win first round of that when the guy red lights. right after that class i have to hurry up for the HS final. i leave the line and just shake my head because i know im late. get down to the other end and make it as close as i can (.0078) so that i have less of a chance to break out. i end up going a 16.63 on my 16.70 but he breaks out by more and was later of the line. six in a row, preety cool. go to second round of conci and race the guy that beat my bro with a .009 package. im a .033 to his .039 and am safe by 1 and he breaks out. i get up there for round three and red light by .010, darn. the car kind of lays over but i was late into third and just lift and coast the rest of the way. during this time my dad is still in the points battle in super pro and is still in. he ends up winning the race but only gets third in the points. darn, first and second get to go to the race of champions this year. we both win wally's as it is the national dragster challenge and call mom who is on a business trip to new york, 3:30 her time.( my dad won his first wally in 1988 and didn't win another until the divisional race this year. now two in one year. we start to load up and there is water all over the bottom of my maverick. darn we think i blew a head gasket and will fix it some time this week after work. so today after we get home from dave's memorial and watch the races on tv we go and take a look at my car. its not a head gasket:mad: . i broke the number 5 piston's skirt and cracked the cylinder:cry: . i guess i will be racing our 85 mustang for the next couple of weeks until we figure out what we are going to do for the motor in the maverick.

Congrat's on your efforts and it is always frustrating when things tear up and time is a factor in getting ready for the next race. Our efforts were similiar yesterday on our points race. I had been working 10 hour days, for the last week, to get the 347 out of the fearmont and replace the damaged thrust bearing journal on the Scat forged steel crank. Replaced it with a cast Eagle one so I could make the race cause I was in 9th place in points and son Todd (Mavman) was in 5th. Also had the rent-a stang in the shop to change all the valve retainers and locks to 10 degree one's, and install a methanol carb set-up, to see how it would perform and then have all three cars running on the same fuel.

My first time trial on the 1000ft track was not good, had a dead cyl. and so I replaced all the plugs etc. Still was a sour running engine and that just frosts my butt, Todd does most of the work on it, cause I am to frustrated to think straight. He discovers a injection nozzle line from the Ron's injection system, is leaking and so I find a fellow racer with some extra one's in his spare parts. Replace it and damn if another one is found too, chgd. out total of three and no more extra one's left. Yep, a fourth on is puking out the crimped fitting too, topping that off, the ansi fitting on the fuel return braided steel line is cracked from previous removal and installation of the other lines, so my day has ended. Believe me I am not a happy camper when I cannot get in the seat and race on any given day.

The stang is performing better than expected on the new fuel, 8.99 twice in a row and then 8.98 in first rd of eliminations, which Justin had dialed it anyway. Went four rds before he accidently let it bump in when staging and that slowed the et down to 9.02 along with a little tire spin when the track got hot and greasy. Still was satisfying for the consistency of the new set-up compared to gasoline on the little 306 engine.

Now for the good news, Todd and the "Mighty Maverick" sent all the compitition, trying to beat him, back to the house with yellow loser slips. Running "very consistent" 7.81 and 7.82's with the 408 windsor, and some nice bracket racing strategy, went to the finals and dumped a strong cheby that is a tough cookie to beat anytime. That results in two wins and one runner up, in three race day's, should bump him up to first or second in points, if my calculations are close. Will order new lines for my car and make a new return line here at the house, so that we should be ready for the next race on the 17th which is a 5000.00 garunteed purse event. Will have lot's of traveling hot shoes come in for it, but we will try our best to send them back home with empty wallets. Still wish I could have been in the seat, am real crabby when I look at the car sitting in the pits and know that I should have inspected those lines more closely when doing the engine rebuild. Won't happen again though.
