I ended up getting my first car back a 74 4door 200/6cyl and she's a little worse off than I left her. But I've learned a lot since I had this car and feel much better about doing stuff to it. The first order of business was getting it running, I put new plug wires that came with the car on and hot wired the coil since some of the wires had been chewed on from mice. The previous owner rebuilt the carb and it was his first time so I wasn't sure if she was going to run. I filled the 1barrel carter thru the vent and a few cranks and she was running up until I noticed a pretty good fuel leak from the front of the carb under the filter but it was close to the base.

Shortly after noticing the leak the car died.

After pulling the carb off, honestly I'm stumped, I thought maybe one of the gaskets was leaking but I haven't one that looks like it would leak.
    Any suggestions??

i had somethihng similar to your problem. i was driving down the road and then all the sudden the car lost complete acceleration and ran terrible...we pulled off immediatly thinking the carb had flooded. when we popped the hood there was puddles of gas accross the intake. we sat and waited for a good while and tried to start it up with no luck, then waited again for longer this time and it still didnt start up. but we did notice that when we tried to start it up the gas was spilling out the front of the carb. so finally we got some advice about taking a wrench and tapping the front of the carberater a couple times and after that the car fired right up first try! You need to adjust the float then. It could be adjusted wrong. Might as well rebuild the whole carburetor the you will know where you stand
