Took a while but got the engine out today. I ended up disconnecting the A/C compressor and removing it with the engine ... thinking about converting to R-134 ..... Just gotta do some cleaning and painting and put the new one back in ....
got engine out Dan I am doing the same thing right now, pulled the 250 from my son's 77 yesterday. The 302 is almost ready to drop into the 6s place.hopin to fire it up by tuesday or wednesday...Jim
My intent is a little different. I'm gonna detail the engine compartment and replace the old tired 250 with a freshly rebuilt one ...
Git r done! I think your the only person I know that has ever pulled an engine on Thanksgiving day. Let me know when your ready to drop the new one in and I will be right over.
maybe.. but i wonder if i am the only one that put a 302 in a maverick on christmas day... kids were playing with their toys... wife was busy with dinner... and so i worked ont he car.. lol
im hoping to yank my 302 and trans on xmas day this year but well see. Dan, if you do convert have your compressor modded for the new refrigerant. I tried just draining one with a friend and recharging it with a "conversion" kit. it would build the right pressure and held pressure fine, everything seemed to be working correctly, yet all we got was warm air from it.
LOL .... Jamie made it over and hauled off the old 250 after I scavenged all the parts off of it that I needed for the new longblock ... Wow ... I have never worked on a six before ... it's like a jigsaw puzzle ... I also found out Autozone doesn't carry a Red dizzy cap anymore but somebody on Ford Six said Pep Boys still has them ... road trip tomorrow ... Got lots of parts painted and bolted on so the engine is just about done ... gonna tackle painting the engine compartment tomorrow!
Red dizzy cap... You can sand and prep whatever cap you have and paint it with your red engine paint.
