Our latest Maverick is now sporting a new coat of paint. This is the first Maverick I have ever painted myself and it looks darn good. When we got this car it my plan to do as much of the work on it myself, including the painting. I painted the car with the hood, trunk, and mirrors off the car. I painted the underside of both the hood and trunk at the same time as the body of the car, and then the fenders and opposite sides of the hood and trunk a fews days later. The car got 3 coats of PPG basecoat and 4 coats of clearcoat. The car is now partially back together and it still needs to be sanded and buffed. These are not the greatest pictures of the car, but at least it's all one color again. In the one picture we had just started sanding the hood and the new headliner is laying on the roof. The headliner went in today. Still need to get a few wrinkles out of that. Oh, and just so you all know, the car really does not have flower patterned seatcovers. That is just a sheet covering the seats. It will be a while yet before I can say that the car is done, but it's getting there.
Looking good Jean. Do you take in customer work too? Sooner or later I have to make my car 1 color and I have a hard time finding anyone that will give a Maverick a second look.
Thanks everyone. This car is more or less a work in progress. I work on it when money and time will allow. Yeah, I know. Time and money- what's THAT? The odds of the car making it to Carlisle are pretty slim at this time. The car is not registered, inspected or insured and we never had a chance to even road test it. Who knows what kind of mechanical bugs it may have. It has a low mileage engine from a 74' Comet in it and it has vacumm leaks all over the place. Once that is straightened out it should idle better than it does now. I still have to replace the wiring to the front parking lights were the mice chewed through them. Lots and lots of little stuff to do. Right now my main concern is getting the wrinkles out of the headliner and getting the interior and the front and rear windshields back in it. I'm planning on replacing the stock rims with the same Magum 500 style wheels like the ones on my other 77' Maverick. Now if I only had the time......and the money.
