Anyone ever open up the scoops on a Grabber hood and make them functional? I was thinking about doing it but i need to buy a set of spare inserts first. I dont want to destroy my current set up.
My broinlaws bro did that with his,he put fog lights inside of them of heard it looked pretty cool when you see that in your rear veiw mirror
sounds pretty cool, but i don't think its DOT legal anywhere. the best idea i had was to mount nitrous purge solenoids in there, im not the only one who's had this idea. But no one has done it yet that i know of.
I've heard it discussed before and the general consensus was that it would be ok for a drag car....not too good for a street car. Rain and open scoops not good.
The first time i heard it discused the consensus was that the scoops were not big enough to make it effective. Also the issue of the airflow actually passing over the scoops came up, but none of us have the money to use a flow tunnel so i guess we'll never know
i thought they came already open. when i bought my grabber the scoops had lights in them but i took them out. i am most likely going to sell my scoops though
I did mine a couple of years ago, put really fine mesh screen behind them, I don't usally drive in the rain, don't know if it helped or not.
He's talking about the small scoops that go on a grabber hood. If you want a bolt on hood scoop click below: http://www.racecomposites.com/bossbolt.htm or http://www.racecomposites.com/cobrajetbolt.htm
I have a friend that did this type of test for a hood scoop placement, simple and effective ( not 100% but better than guessing) He placed 5 smoke bombs (them cheap ones you get from a firework place) in a chip smolderer for a bbq grill, 1 long fuse tying them together. Placed that behind a house hold ( he said he had to play with the speed a bit, and restrict the back of fan to remove some fresh air for a clear stream of smoke) fan blowing towards the front end of the car. Then he simply moved the scoop up and down the hood looking for the most air grab. Seems to work he states at freeway speed the car seems alot more pep from the cold air placement, his is not really a "ram air" just good clean fresh air. Just something to think about for backyard mechanics looking for a couple ponies, my be worth a try. Also note if you don't have a year round firework availabilty, most of your fire safety houses have smoke bombs available to test for smoke dector systems.
