    1970 Maverick 6cyl converted to 289 HiPo
I went through 3 ford 69 Mustange fastback, when I was a teenager... also had a 1970 Mecury Cougar XR7.

A friend gave me a travel trailer, and I needed a car
to pull it in the future, so I have bought a 70 Maverick that has a 289 laying in the engine compartment, the motor mounts provided for the conversion don't come close to fitting at all. Thus is my dilema, keep the thing and fix it up or get rid of it and try again. Car was a 70 6cyl, body is straight,
red interior is in fair condition, so I think the car has potential. I'm not a small block guru, so I don't even know what is compatible with the 289. It has an Edelbrockintake, carb and suposidly a hi-po cam
in the 289 which came out of a 64 ford falconl

I'm indeed hoping that as I work through this project that I can find assistance from others here in the forums.

Well, that's my story for now... I'm glad to be here and look forward to trading info and ideas with others here.

Welcome to the center of the Maverick/Comet universe!!!
To install that V-8 you will need a set of Maverick/Comet V-8 frame stands and a set of Small block ford motor mounts for a Maverick (available in most parts stores) The stands are a bit tougher to come by. Place a want ad in the "Parts wanted" section of this forum. I guarantee you will get someone who has a set for sale. If the body/ chassis are rust free...Consider it a keeper. Good luck!!!
Where in the High desert are you? I used to live in Ridgecrest California while I was in the Navy, stationed at China lake.

Welcome fellow 70 owner! Is it an early 70 (Key in the package tray)?

Welcome aboard! These are great cars and a lot of fun. Gets lots of attention too. I hope you keep the car and build it.
I also hope you reconsider the thought of pulling any travel trailer with a Maverick. These cars are not built for that and will certainly cause you problems if you try to do so. I'm not saying it won't pull it but you would really have to beef up the suspension not to mention these cars are unibody (no full frame) so there is no great way to mount a receiver hitch for a travel trailer. The short wheel base would also cause you serious problems.
Good luck with your car whatever you decide to do with it.
