Yeah, DynoMax owns them now. Summit sells them under the Blackjack name for about $100. They're plain steel so I had mine Jet-Hot coated.
Are there any issues with changing the spark plugs or interference with the shock towers? What kind of setup are you running?
I ran Blackjack's for years without spark plug or clearance issues. I now have the Hooker 6901's that in my opinion are of much greater quality.
I know that you need special headers when using these heads in a fox-mustang....just need to know if the same goes for these cars.
Wish I would have known this before I bought my recent set of coated headers. I found out after I bought them that I could get a set directly from Jet-Hot for the same money. Haven't had any problems with them yet, but if I do I will just send my spare set of uncoated 6901's in to Jet-Hot for coating.
Are there any issues with changing the spark plugs... These are same headers I used with 302 and 351W heads previously. I didn't modify them in any way. On the driver's side the header tubes are almost directly above the spark plugs. Where they turn down and towards the rear is where there is clearance issues. I used Accel "shorty" spark plugs, PN P526S, and instead of the normal plug wire boots/terminals I installed boots and terminals that snap on to the posts of an electronic distributor cap. They fit right on the spark plugs and gave me an extra 3/4" clearance over the normal boots/terminals. There are no real clearance issues on the passanger side. To remove the plugs on the driver's side I have to loosen the headers and use a spark plug socket that I cut down to fit. Also, the exhaust ports on the GT40P's are larger than even a 351W's. I had to use a die grinder and enlarge the exhaust gasket openings some.
www.fordpowertrain.com sells a tri-y header that works with dart and P heads, the guy there told me that someone has installed a set on a maverick but I would email him first for more info, for the street they would be ok , I think they are 1 1/2" primarys 2 1/4" collectors? and are $399. If you don't want to mess with headers the 289 hipo cast exhaust manifolds work great for the steet and changing plugs is easy , like bmcdaniel stated about port matching manifold to P head you will have to grind a little off manifold and gaskets to match the roundish exhaust port on the p head, it took me 10min. to do with a die grinder. The Hedman 88650 looks like it could work but I don't know if anybody tried it yet.
I havig a 1971 comet 302 built up from the floor up With GT40-P heads and the builder the cam guys just about everyone is not sure about the pushrod length. Stock 71' 302 rods? Stock 95' explorer rods' Special mic. and custom cut. I don't know but surely somone has done this and can save me the machine shop rates of foolin' with it till it works. I'm sure the can figure it out but if anyone could save the hassel i would appreciate it.
Comp Cams makes a Hi-tech Pushrod length checker. Each turn equals .050 http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/293.asp These make it easier to dial in the proper length
