Does anyone know if the comet and cougar shared the same hood scoop?

The scoop is the same. I think a couple of the mounting studs on the bottom of the scoop might be in different holes on the Cougar.

they are. and you need to be careful about some of the repro's not having the correct Comet mounting bosses. The cheapest ones are the worst for interchange compatibility because they are model specific with no additional bosses being built in like the factory version had.

Cant remember what has what right now.. but some have the bosses and just need to be drilled out to accept the Comets bolt pattern(if the scoop holes were already drilled for the original scoop and you would like to reuse them).. and some have no extended bosses to even allow drilling and retrofitting onto the Comets original mounting locations.

If you have no existing holes in your hood from an original scoop then you can simply use the Cougars alternate mounting locations but keep in mind you may have to notch the inner hood bracing if something doesn't line up like the original.

I believe the difference is in the front mounting hole used, and that is was likely due to being able to place the holes around underlying hood bracing. You may see 3 different part numbers embossed underneath. They used the same scoop on Cougar, Montego body styles, and finally Comet. They kept adding part numbers in later years as the scoop was used on different models. I believe that if you got an early Cougar scoop, it would be 1 part number and just one pair of front mounting pads underneath.
