Has anyone EVER seen a factory mirror setup like this?

Guy bought the car in "original" unmolested condition out of California and has the build sheet to prove this is part of the factory original way the mirrors were installed. I wish I had taken a picture of the back side of the mirrors I forgot to ask him if it was reflectors or lights but on the back of these mirror was a reflector or light in the shape of the Ford crest like the one in the center of most of the steering wheels. Guy lives in Southern Maryland and knows of these forums and has read a lot here but never signed up to post anything.

I would love to know what in the heck the Maverick emblems that are bolted where the mirrors should be are? Have never ever seen another set of them. pretty wicked.

I don't remember the year the Factory started installing mirrors...they were a dealer installed option for years because outside mirrors was not a Federal law, is was more of a option

I would think the A-pillar is in the way... but maybe not.

I was going to say that they looked "early 60s Ford-ish", and it does look like they are right in line with the pillar, so visibility might be pretty bad.

I seem to recall old Galaxies having some fender-mounted mirrors, so to have it pinned down to early Ranchero makes sense. I wonder if the plate on the door is a repurposed Ranchero emblem.

    EDIT ...

Google search turned up this ....
Dearborn Classics lists this for several models ... Falcon, Galaxy, etc.

Also, if you do a Google Image search for "fender-mounted mirrors", you get to see all kinds of awful stuff. Lots of mirrors mounted on car fenders by the front tires, jutting out in the air like bunny ears .... ewwwwww .....

There is nothing on the build sheet that would tell you where the mirrors are mounted, it would tell you the style of mirror. The Ranchero emblem is there to cover the holes from where the factory mounted the mirror. Regardless of what anyone thinks, this is not some undiscovered option.

A lot of Japanese imports still had Fender mounted mirrors in the 70s

Actually someone metioned to the guy that this setup may have been for import overseas.

Good to know the Emblems are from a Ranchero. The picture someone posted of the Fender mounted mirror is close but no cigar. The ones on the maverick have that plastic emblem on the back.

Sorry to say this but I looked at the car and I believe the car was purchased that way when it was new. Maybe it was a dealer installed thing but I believe the guy when he says he has the paperwork to prove they are original to the car. I didn't personally see the build sheet or window sticker or whatever he has that he that makes him think the car came that way but I don't doubt that he has something that indicates "fender mounted mirrors" maybe it is hand written on the build sheet? maybe it is on the options list on the window sticker Idunno? I also meant to mention that the car is a 69-1/2....

As far as the 2, 4 barrels, the tunnel ram and the Grabber hood. He told me that when he bought the car it was a 170 with a 3 on the tree and he modified it after he bought it.
