Started the 70 Grabber today - 1st time this engine has run in 25 years!

Still been too cold to do any real work in the shop. So I started to free up the engine on Monday. Since it has not been run in 25 years - I treated it like a seized motor. Soaked down the rings and valve train with Marvel Mystery Oil and let it sit for 3 days. Flushed the fuel system and cleaned the plugs and points. Everything on this car down to the plug wires is original. Fired up nicely - even with the air temperture in the shop at about 15 degrees today.

So smooth you can set your beer down on the engine! :beerchug:

Here is a still pic of the engine with the valve cover off - it was surprisingly clean in there. It sure is a pleasure working on a motor that has 12,600 miles on it. :)

There is a link to a 2 minute video below the picture - not for the guys on dialup - huge file warning.

Very cool. Reminds me of when I first got the engine that's in my '72 running. 200/C4 out of a '71 Grabber, the car had 29,000 original miles. Absolutely everything on the engine was totally original, even still had the original Autolite fan belt! I had the engine in my '69.5 for a few months, and a few times at red lights I began to question if the thing had quit running! It ran so smooth, and it was dead quiet inside the car with the stock exhaust.

That is great and good to hear. I'll be bringing home a 72 Maverick 250 c4 before long that has been sitting about the same length of time according to the inspection sticker. I plan on going about starting it the same way. Clean the fuel system and lube it all up good with MMO.
