Fewer comets, so they're even less seen than the mavericks. We all like the fact that our cars are unusual, the comet is more so. And, it was the one that actually had a cool hood scoop. Enjoy.

don't feel left out. i have a 73 comet and i have only ever seen 3 other ones here in salt lake. and one of those was in the junk yard. wish i had been able to get back and get the bumpers off it before it was smashed. but i see mavericks all the time. i know were two other mavericks, that are still daily drivers, are like 2-3 blocks away.

Yes, they (Comets) are few & in between. That's why I get them when I can....

    Comet Complex?

I've had 4 Mavericks, and no Comets, but that's simply a matter of what I happened to find, not actually persuing one over the other. I honestly like them both the same. Each has styling ques that make them cool in their own way. Personally I don't care that much for the little snout that protrudes in the front of the Comets (although it's nowhere near as bad as 70 Cougars and Cyclones). However, I think the Comet tail lights and GT stripes are actually a little cooler than the Mavs. Like someone else said, we like these cares because they're a little out of the ordinary, and yours is even a little more unique yet, so I say enjoy it. It's very Cool!!!!!!!

You'd be surprised how many knumbskulls ask how to convert a Comet to a Maverick!
As if they owned a Firebird and preferred a Camaro!

When I was younger the Maverick was considered to be a cool car and the Comet a seriosly uncool car. If you look at old ads you can see that the Maverick was marketed for the cool guy, the cowboy type. The Comet was on the other hand a family car. If I could have chosen between a Maverick and a Comet I would have picked the Maverick (who wants to own a uncool car?)

But now I'm totally happy with the Comet especially after I realized that most of them have been trashed. So in my mind the Comet has now the status of a super cool car I just love it...

They came with more trim in base models and were more pricey as all Mercury cars have been.

Even though I have 3 mavericks and one Comet, I always liked the Comet styling better. Comets and Comet parts are just harder to find. When I bought my Sprint new, I really wanted a Comet but it was about $300 more. Alot back then.

My next door neighbor has a '76 red Comet 2 door in his garage that he never uses and does not want to sell. Less than a mile away from my house there was a '75 Tan Comet GT for sale for $4000.00 It was in very good orginal condition, orginal owner, 250 six, stick with buckets floor shifter AM/FM stereo. Guess I should have bought it ha.
