Both of my headlights went out a couple days ago, but the hi-beams still work. I was looking through a couple of other posts on here and they mention cleaning the grounds to fix headlight problems. I was wondering where they are (I'm guessing just right behind the headlights) and what I should clean them with.
The hi beam and low beams share the same ground. So if the hi beams work it is not the ground. Make sure the headlamps are good. Then check the dimmer switch.
It is held in place by two screws and a wire connector. You will need to remove the drivers side kick panel in order to roll back the carpet far enough to access it.
Well, I replaced it but I'm having the same problem still. Is there anything else it could be or did both my headlights just burn out at the same time?
Did you check the headlights first before the dimmer switch? It is not that unusual for both lights to go at the same time. It has happened to me. If you have a meter you can check continuity or just use a battery charger to check if they light up OK.
I guess I should have. My dad was thinking that it would be pretty rare for both to go at the same time, so we thought it had to be something different. I'll check them out now though.
I blew both bulbs, low and high beam at the same time on a Ford F150 once and it was at night too. I had to drive home with only the fog lamps. Bought 2 new bulbs and it never happened again - no idea why.
Years ago on 72 Comet Gt my headlights started to blink off & on one night and it was voltage regulator.
Yes, years ago it was not uncommon to see a car going down the road with the lights blinking. The headlamp switch has a self-resetting circuit breaker built into it. That is why it is so big and bulky compared to other switches. Your voltage regulator went wacko and that breaker kicked into action.
