I am having an engine build for me, he is put on aluminum heads and a 347 stoker kit. I want to put headers on it and i don't care the coast as long as its not over like $1000. It has power steering and it is colume shift 1976 model. What headers fit the best and what would have to be done to them to fit on my Maverick
Anything aluminum is going to cost over $1000. Good cast iron heads include the GT40s and GT40Ps, and some roush heads. I paid $300 for a set of GT40Ps off an explorer, with valves and springs, ready to install. Doubled my HP with very little work.
i already have the aluminum heads, i was just wanting to know what headers will fit and what mods have to be done to fit them
You won't be able to keep the column shift with any header made for a Maverick chassis. You will also have to use a power steering drop bracket. So, if you're dead set on using the column shift, good luck making it work.
What heads you running? It will take some modifying to make the column shift work but there are some guys on this board that have done it.
If you can get a clutch cross shaft in there, a trans shift cross shaft shouldnt be that hard. I'd figure it out for ya but all mine are manuals. Bring yours by and we'll get it to work.
Standard 6901's aren't that expensive. You can get them in ceramic coated or have them Jet-Hot coated and it's not too bad in cost. I think my uncoated 6901's were less than $180. Can't remember for sure. Seth
Scrapper60 Do a search. (I know, I hate it too when that becomes someone's answer to a question...) However I did see a post not too long ago that someone described exactly how they fit headers into their column shift car. I think the problem was with 2 of the rods that go from the column to the pivot point, not the pivot itself. The person posting said that the mods were reasonably minor. Dave
