Recently started the project of overhauling my AC/Heater box and I'm a little confused by the type of gasket I have sealing the box to the firewall. It's on the engine side of the firewall, which is very different from all the photos and diagrams I've been able to find. The seal consists of a rubber gasket and a two-piece metal plate to hold it in place.

I've included some photos. Also, you can see the parts in question here: http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/diagrams/untitled125.gif

Does anyone have this same situation? And do you think I should find a new rubber gasket before replacing the heater box?

I just finished my 73 Comet box and the rubber gasket was on the inside of the firewall. I did not have a metal plate on the outside. I had to replace the heater core and just did a complete overhaul while I had it out. I don't believe the box had ever been out.
