My name is Oliver and I am from Chicago Il. I have a 1972 Maverick that was left to me when my dad passed away back in april of 99. My dad loved fords, Growing up we had an orange 71 Maverick, and in 79 he purchased a ford fairmont off the showroom floor and had that for almost 10 years and never a problem. He took a trip in 89 to California to seek some medical assistance for his diabetes. When it was time to come home he told my mom he would be back in a few days and when he showed up, he said take a look outside. It was a mint 1972 Green Maverick that he bought and drove back straight across the country from northern cali. My mom was like another maverick youve got to be kidding me! So when the radiator went out on the fairmont the old man made the Maverick his daily ride. Fast forward a few years and here we are. The car has been sitting since he passed in the garage of my house. I had dreams of doing something simple and fun with the car and enter destiny, I just got a deal I couldnt refuse on an 89 302 fuel injected mustang engine with the computer and well I guess im on my way to starting a chapter in my life where I start to create my own maverick memories for My Wife, my kids and I. Needless to say I am going to need a ton of help. and I am not a car guy so to speak, but what I lack in Maverick Knowledge I know I make up for in heart. I really want to do something cool in honor of my dad as I create lifetime memories for my two teenage daughters and my 3 year old son. I wonder what maverick stories they will tell to their kids about their crazy dad and his green maverick.... Chapter one, the engine swap.........
Welcome from Alabama! We're here to help any way we can. These are great cars and I'm glad to see you keeping this one going...especially for your Dad. :Handshake
to the board! That's a great story. Please keep us updated on the progress with it, and don't be shy about asking questions either! Do you plan to keep the EFI on the engine or convert to carb?
Thank you, I know I am in the right place, i feel at home already. I cant wait to get this out on the road and to see peoples faces when they see the car. Just simply because its a Maverick, It seems like everyone I know, has a Maverick Story or Knows someone with a Maverick or whos parents had one as a kid growing up. Chevelles, Novas, Malibus, Camaros, and even Mustangs are a dime a dozen, But the Maverick is Elusive, at least in these parts, I rarely see them. What a neat car, I cant wait to take it to the car shows on Wednesdays in the burb I live in Just Oustside Chicago. Too Many people take themselves way too serious for my liking, and you know what, I will let people touch my car, I amy even have one made that says "Please Touch" and sit in it and even take them for rides in it. I will be the anti-car show guy on wednesdays during the summers that encourages the conversations for people not to forget why we love cars so much. My Maverick and I are on a mission in 2010!
