How do you remove the gas tank to get it repaired...I've tried everything and it won't release. Any tips would be great. I'm removing my stock gast tank and getting it repaired. how do i un attach it even though i've unbolted both support bands and its still attached by where the gas is pumped in from the back...
Pull the filler neck out BEFORE you try to drop the tank... the tank won't drop off the tube. I fought with mine for a while before I finally tried to pull the tube -- which came right out.
pull it out? its screwed on from the outside. ive already unscrewed it but its still attached and it just pops off of the gas tank?
yea donnie take the rubber gasket that is screwed down to your floor and pull it up out of the way the best you can. the filler tube pusshes into a rubber o-ring that is attached to your tank. there are no more screws or anything its just stuck. try using wd-40 on the o-ring or anything slippery
alright cool...ill try it and when i get it repaired do you think getting a sheet wielded on the bottom of my gas tank is a smart idea? it has about five pin sized holes in a 5" x5" area... do you know where maybe i can buy a new one?
You never give me a call, I'm telling you we can work together to get you going. I know where there is a tank but I don't know how much yet. what else are you working on? Ward
hey ward...i know i haven't called. ive been really busy but yeah if you can help me that would be great cause right now the only set back from me being able to drive is this gas tank problem im having...im off this wednesday. maybe we can do something then.
Yeah that would be good. I need to get this tank off and see about getting it fixed. also do you still have that small bumper we were talking about? and do you still want to sell it?
great maybe you can bring it over on wed and i can check it out. i really need a bumper. what do you think would be the best thing to do about my gas tank that is always leaking...ive tried patching it a ton of times...and would it be that hard to tak off?
I don't know how hard it will be to get off your tank but listening to Matt and others above it sounds like you are almost there. Some how(and I only tried to buy small bumper cars not 70s specifically) out of 5 mavs I've owned all of them have been 70s and 2 of those have been the early ones with the key switch on the package tray. The reason I bring this up is the gas tank on a 70 drops in from the inside of the trunk like an earlier Mustang. If the tank I'm thinking is in good shape it would be easier to just swap tanks.
Thanks ward, great so what your saying is that you have a tank? And also I just found out wednesday would be a bad day for me what about thursday? I'm off anytime after 1 o'clock..so is this a good day and what is your number again?
Hey Ward I will have a good 73 tank, once you are done painting my car. I am going to put a fuel cell in. Todd
